Daily IQ Puzzle

One visual matrix puzzle a day. Find the piece that completes the pattern in two tries. Everyone gets the same puzzle, and a new one arrives at midnight UTC.

How to play

  1. Look across the rows and down the columns. Each puzzle follows one or two hidden rules.
  2. Pick the piece that completes the grid. You have two tries, and the clock starts when the puzzle loads.
  3. Share your result without giving the answer away, and come back tomorrow to keep your streak.

The rules behind the puzzles

Every puzzle uses one of the rule types found in classic matrix reasoning tests (Carpenter, Just and Shell, 1990).

Frequently asked questions

When does a new puzzle appear?

Every day at midnight UTC. Everyone in the world gets the same puzzle, so you can compare results with friends.

Is the daily puzzle an IQ test?

No. It is one practice puzzle in the style of matrix reasoning tests, and it does not give you an IQ score. The LifeScore IQ test is 25 of these puzzles, from easy to hard, with a 12-minute timer.

How hard is it?

It follows the week, like newspaper puzzles. Monday and Tuesday are easy, the middle of the week is medium, and Saturday and Sunday are hard.

How many tries do I get?

Two. There are five options, so a lucky guess is possible, which is why the share line shows your tries and your time.

How is my streak saved?

In your browser, with no account. Your streak counts the days in a row you solve the puzzle. Clearing your browser data, or switching device, starts it again.

Can I play old puzzles?

Yes. The last two weeks are under Past puzzles. Replays do not change your streak.

How do I get better at these?

Look at one feature at a time (shape, number, colour, direction), find the rule along the top row, check it down the columns, and picture the missing piece before you look at the options. Our guide to solving matrix IQ questions walks through every rule type.

One a day not enough?
