1. Win the early questions fast
Questions get harder as you go, so answer the early ones fast and bank the time. If a question has not opened up within about 20 seconds, guess and move on: blanks and wrong answers both score zero.
2. Take the easy points
- Following directions: read the instruction twice; it is usually counting or positions in a word or list.
- Jumbled sentences: put the words in order in your head, then judge true or false.
- Sentence meaning: decide whether two statements say the same, the opposite or neither.
- Comparisons: convert fractions to decimals (3/5 = 0.6) before comparing.
3. Mental math shortcuts
- Know common fractions as decimals: 1/8 = 0.125, 3/8 = 0.375, 5/8 = 0.625.
- Percent of a number: 25% is a quarter, 20% is a fifth, 12.5% is an eighth.
- Discounts: a 20% discount means paying 80%; multiply once.
- Rates: work out one unit first (per item, per hour), then scale.
4. A 7-day plan
| Day | What to do |

| 6 | Third full timed test; compare all three. |
