Did the Wonderlic predict NFL success?

Not well. Several of the most successful quarterbacks are reported to have scored at or below average, and some very high scorers had short careers. Reading a defence draws on years of film study, which a 12-minute test does not capture. The NFL dropped the Wonderlic from the combine in 2022.

Outside football, the Wonderlic is still used in hiring. Guidance quoted from Wonderlic's manual is about 20 to 26 for clerical and supervisory roles and around 28 to 30 for managers, engineers and attorneys.
