Here is how to read a high score honestly.
High IQ society thresholds
High IQ societies set entry at a percentile on approved, supervised tests. On a scale with a standard deviation of 15, those percentiles convert to the scores below. The rarity column is computed from the normal curve.

Why very high scores are less precise
Every test has a ceiling. With 25 questions, a couple of lucky or unlucky answers move a score a lot at the top end. Even clinical tests with many more items have wide confidence intervals in the 140s and above.
So if you score very high, read it as "very high" rather than as an exact number. And none of the societies above accept online results, ours included.
How this test works for high achievers
The five sets each run from easy to hard, so the last questions in each set carry the most information about high ability.
- Accuracy beats speed, but the 12-minute clock is real.
- Your first attempt is the honest one. Retakes inflate scores through familiarity.
What very high ability predicts
The Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth followed children who scored in the top 1 in 10,000 on reasoning tests at about 13. By their late 30s, as a group, they had earned doctorates, patents and senior academic posts at rates far above the general population, according to a 2013 follow-up by Harrison Kell, David Lubinski and Camilla Benbow.
The same research is clear that outcomes varied widely within the group. Very high ability raised the odds of exceptional achievement; it did not guarantee it.

What IQ do you need for Mensa?+
A score at or above the 98th percentile on an approved supervised test, which is about 130 on a scale with a standard deviation of 15.
How rare is an IQ of 145?+
On a standard scale, 145 or higher occurs in about 1 in 741 people.
Is a high IQ the same as high achievement?+
No. Research on achievement consistently finds that effort, opportunity and deep domain knowledge matter as much as ability.
