How our TEAS practice test is built and scored
Nursing programs read your TEAS score against ATI's proficiency levels. Our practice test covers the same four sections and tells you which level your score points to. Here is how it works, and the honest list of what we have not done yet.

What it is, and what it is not
What it is
- Practice on all four TEAS sections, in the real order
- An estimated overall percentage and the ATI level it points to
- A way to see which section costs you most
What it is not
- The official ATI TEAS, or connected to ATI
- Weighted like the real test: ATI does not publish its item weights

How the questions are made and checked
| Question type | Per test | How it is made |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | 13 | Hand-written (bank of 81) |
| Math | 11 | Generated, answer computed |
| Science | 15 | Hand-written (bank of 99) |
| English and Language Usage | 11 | Hand-written (bank of 72) |
Hand-written questions are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and edited by us. Each one carries a single keyed answer and a written explanation of the rule, which you see in the answer review. Automated checks confirm that every key points to a real option and that no question offers the same option twice.
Reading, Science and English questions are hand-written. The first banks were checked line by line and the science facts double-checked against standard textbook content. Maths questions are generated with computed answers.
What we have not done yet: no nurse, nursing educator or teacher has reviewed the hand-written banks. We are looking for one, and this page will name them when they have.
Each practice test is 50 questions, ordered from easy to hard. The same test always has the same questions. Hand-written questions are dealt out so that no hand-written question appears in two different full practice tests.
Found a question with two right answers, or a wrong key? Tell us and we will fix it and log the fix in the change log.
How your score is estimated
Your result is the share of the 50 questions you got right, read against the proficiency levels ATI publishes (Proficient from about 59%, Advanced from 80%, Exemplary from 92%). Published sources differ by about a point at the edges.
The real TEAS weights its 150 scored questions in a way ATI does not publish, so a plain share right is a rough guide to your real percentage.[1]
| Right answers | Score and level | Ahead of applicants |
|---|---|---|
| 10 of 50 | 20% · Developmental | 3% |
| 15 of 50 | 30% · Developmental | 6% |
| 20 of 50 | 40% · Developmental | 14% |
| 25 of 50 | 50% · Basic | 29% |
| 30 of 50 | 60% · Proficient | 47% |
| 35 of 50 | 70% · Proficient | 66% |
| 40 of 50 | 80% · Advanced | 83% |
| 45 of 50 | 90% · Advanced | 95% |
| 50 of 50 | 100% · Exemplary | 99%+ |
What the estimate assumes
- Score shown
- Plain share right, unweighted
- Level cut-offs
- As ATI's levels are reported by test-prep sites; they differ by about a point
- Middle of applicants (for the percentile)
- 31 of 50 right (62%), our assumption
- Our questions vs the real ones
- Assumed similar in difficulty. Not tested against real TEAS results
Limits worth knowing
- Not yet reviewed by a nursing educator. Treat the question banks as good practice, not as an exact copy of the test's difficulty.
- Every nursing program sets its own minimum, often 65% to 80% or higher for competitive programs. Check yours.
- Our test is 50 questions, a third of the real length, so one lucky or unlucky answer moves the percentage by 2 points.
