Who is Lelouch vi Britannia?
Lelouch is an exiled prince of the Holy Britannian Empire, living in occupied Japan under a false name. When a mysterious girl called C.C. gives him Geass, the power to make anyone obey one command, he becomes Zero, the masked leader of a rebellion against his own father.
The Geass is the hook. The chess-player brain is what makes him dangerous.
The evidence: how smart is Lelouch?
- 1
Shinjuku
Minutes after receiving Geass in the Shinjuku ghetto, Lelouch takes command of a local resistance cell by radio and directs them against a Britannian army. He uses them like pieces on a board, and nearly wins a battle he had no reason to be in that morning.
- 2
Chess and Narita
As a student, Lelouch plays chess against nobles for money and wins. As Zero he turns that thinking on the battlefield: at Narita he has the Black Knights trigger a landslide down the mountain onto the Britannian forces. It works, and it also kills civilians, including the father of his friend Shirley.
- 3
Zero Requiem
In the finale, Lelouch makes himself emperor and a tyrant the whole world hates. Then he arranges for Suzaku, dressed as Zero, to kill him in public. With his death the world's hatred dies with him, and the war ends. It is the longest-range plan in the series and he executes it perfectly.
How Lelouch thinks
Thinking style
Strategic and theatrical
Lelouch thinks like a chess player: control the board, predict the response, sacrifice pieces when needed. He also understands theatre. The mask, the speeches and the image of Zero are weapons as real as his Knightmares.
Three strengths
Battlefield strategy
He repeatedly beats larger, better-armed forces with planning.
Leadership through image
Zero is a symbol he designed to make people follow him.
Long-range planning
Zero Requiem needed years of groundwork to succeed.
Two blind spots
Emotion breaks his plans
His Geass slips out of control while he is joking with Euphemia, and a single careless command leads to a massacre. His plans assume people behave logically; they rarely do.
Treating people as pieces
He sacrifices allies and deceives friends, and it costs him nearly everyone he loves.

Lelouch is imaginative, disciplined and controlling. He performs extraversion as Zero but is private as himself. Beneath the arrogance he is protective and emotional, especially about his sister Nunnally, and that emotion drives most of his choices.

We look at what the character actually does: problems solved, plans that work, how fast they learn and how they compare with other brilliant characters in the same story. The range is a fan estimate, not a measurement.
Even the low end of the range, 165, would score higher than about 99.999% of people, roughly 1 in 136,074. Real tests become much less reliable this far above average.
