How our CCAT practice test is built and scored
Same length, same clock, same mix of verbal, maths, logic and shapes as the real CCAT, with original questions. Here is how we write them, how we estimate your percentile, and where the estimate stops being reliable.

Hand-written questions are drafted with the help of AI writing tools and edited by us. Each one carries a single keyed answer and a written explanation of the rule, which you see in the answer review. Automated checks confirm that every key points to a real option and that no question offers the same option twice.
Generated questions are built from a rule with the answer calculated by the code, never typed in by hand, so the key cannot be mistyped. Automated tests re-solve generated questions independently (for example re-deriving every number series and checking every ordering and syllogism has one consistent answer) and run on every change to the site.
Each practice test is 50 questions, ordered from easy to hard. The same test always has the same questions. Hand-written questions are dealt out so that no hand-written question appears in two different full practice tests.
Found a question with two right answers, or a wrong key? Tell us and we will fix it and log the fix in the change log.
How your score is estimated
Your result is your raw score out of 50, the same number Criteria reports to employers, plus an estimate of the share of real CCAT takers you would be ahead of if that score carried over one to one.
The middle of the curve comes from Criteria's own score report guide, where 24 right is the 50th percentile. The rest follows a percentile table that prep sites attribute to a Criteria sample report; we could not re-check that table at its source, so read the extremes as approximate.[2]
| Right answers | Ahead of CCAT takers | Implied IQ range |
|---|---|---|
| 10 of 50 | 6% | 74 to 99 |
| 15 of 50 | 15% | 79 to 105 |
| 20 of 50 | 32% | 85 to 110 |
| 25 of 50 | 55% | 90 to 116 |
| 30 of 50 | 76% | 96 to 122 |
| 35 of 50 | 90% | 102 to 127 |
| 40 of 50 | 97% | 108 to 133 |
| 45 of 50 | 99% | 113 to 138 |
| 50 of 50 | 99%+ | 119 to 145 |
What the estimate assumes
- Median of real takers
- 24 right out of 50 (Criteria's published median)
- Spread of real takers
- From a published percentile table, smoothed between points
- Our questions vs theirs
- Assumed equally hard on average. Not yet tested against real CCAT results
- IQ range (on the CCAT to IQ page)
- Assumes a correlation of 0.7 between CCAT score and IQ among test-takers. An assumption, not a measured figure
Limits worth knowing
- We have not compared our scores with the same people's real CCAT scores, so the percentile is an estimate built on the assumption that our questions are as hard as Criteria's.
- Practising raises scores on any test, so a percentile on your third practice run flatters you more than your first.
- Employers set their own cut-offs. The role guidance on our score pages is reported guidance, never a pass mark.
