Amazon's assessment is not a test you can cram. Here is the part you can practise

Amazon says most of its assessments need no advance preparation, and that is mostly true. They measure how you work and how you handle simulated tasks. One task type, reading data from a chart, can be practised. Here is how to tell which kind you have and what to do about it.

How close is this practice test to the Amazon test?

Amazon says some of its work simulations ask you to read data from a chart, and reports describe numerical data in tables and graphs for some operations and management roles. The first half of our reasoning test is 25 questions of exactly that kind.

Most Amazon assessments are work style questionnaires and role simulations, not aptitude tests, and Amazon says most roles need no advance preparation. A reasoning practice test only helps where a data-reading task appears. It will not help with the work style assessment, and it does not cover coding.

It is a Reasoning-style test: 50 original questions in 45 minutes. Check the test name in your invitation email before you decide how to prepare.

Work style assessmentBuilt around Amazon's Leadership Principles; you pick how well statements describe you. Typically 10 to 20 minutes (up to 25 in one guide)
Work sample simulationVirtual tasks related to the position, typically 20 minutes to an hour
Tasks can includeReading data from a chart, answering a customer question, choosing how to resolve an issue, multitasking, finding information across several sources
Software rolesA coding section plus a work style survey. The SDE II assessment gives 90 minutes of technical questions, 20 minutes of design scenarios and an 8-minute work style survey
Field ManagerA 60-minute assessment with five sections, one of which is Work Styles
PreparationAmazon says most roles need no advance preparation
DeadlinesStrict. If one is missed, Amazon says it cannot grant extensions

The Amazon stages, and who says so

Every stage is marked by its source. Stated means the employer says it on its own pages. Candidates report means we found it only in candidate accounts and prep guides.

  1. 01

    Work style assessment

    Typically 10 to 20 minutes

    Stated by Amazon

How you prefer to work, framed around Amazon's Leadership Principles. You choose how strongly a statement describes you, sometimes between two statementsAmazon advises not overthinking these. A reasoning practice test does nothing for this.
  2. 02

    Work sample simulation

Typically 20 minutes to an hour

    Stated by Amazon

Virtual tasks related to the job: reading data from a chart, answering a customer question, choosing how to resolve an issue, multitasking, finding information across several sourcesWhich tasks you get depends on the role.
  3. 03

    Technical or coding assessment

For SDE II: 90 minutes technical, 20 minutes design scenarios, 8-minute survey

    Stated by Amazon

For software roles: coding and system design scenarios, with a short work style survey
  4. 04

Numerical and logical reasoning (some roles)

    Candidates report

Numerical data in graphs, tables or charts, and logical reasoning problems, for some operations and management rolesFrom prep sites and candidate reviews. Amazon's pages we read mention reading data from a chart but not a separate reasoning test.

Most of it is not an aptitude test

Amazon's jobs site describes two common kinds of assessment. The first is a work style assessment, which Amazon says is centred on its Leadership Principles and takes typically 10 to 20 minutes. You choose how well a statement describes you. There are no right sums and nothing to revise.

The second is a work sample simulation: virtual tasks related to a specific position, typically taking 20 minutes to an hour. Depending on the role, the tasks may involve reading data from a chart, answering a customer question, choosing how to resolve an issue, multitasking, or finding information across several sources.

Amazon is also direct about preparation: for most roles other than software engineering, no advance preparation is required. We would rather tell you that than sell you a plan you do not need.

The part you can practise: reading a chart quickly

One of the simulation tasks Amazon names is reading data from a chart. If your role includes it, a table-reading practice test is useful, because it builds the habit that matters most: say what you need, find it, check the units, answer. The first 25 questions of the free test above are exactly that kind of work.

Prep sites and candidate reviews go further. They say some operations and management assessments include numerical reasoning from graphs, tables and charts, and one prep provider lists a numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning component for Area Manager. Amazon's pages we read do not confirm a separate reasoning test, so read that as a possibility, not a promise.

How to approach the work style assessment

Amazon says to answer without overthinking and not to spend long on any one item. Read the Leadership Principles once so you know the vocabulary, think of a real example for two or three of them, and then answer as you would actually behave. Trying to guess the most Amazonian answer every time tends to produce contradictions, and you cannot revise your way out of that.

Because the assessment is part of a process that includes interviews built on the same principles, it also helps to prepare short stories you can use later.

The assessment depends on the job

Amazon's pages show how much it varies. The software engineering assessment includes coding plus a short work style survey; the SDE II assessment gives 90 minutes for technical questions, then 20 minutes of systems design scenarios and an 8-minute multiple-choice work style survey. The Field Manager assessment is a 60-minute evaluation with five sections, one of them Work Styles. Customer service associates get a longer 10 to 25 minute work style range.

So the first thing to do is open the job page and the invitation, and see which assessment you have been given. A warehouse applicant, a customer service applicant and a field manager applicant will not sit the same thing.

The logistics Amazon is firm about

Most assessments are conducted virtually, and many are timed, so set aside enough time. You need internet access, a computer with a reliable connection and email access. Deadlines are strict, and Amazon says that if one is missed it cannot grant extensions. Put the deadline in your calendar the day the invitation arrives.

Be careful where you practise

Search results for Amazon assessments are full of pages that promise answers or a preview of the test. Amazon does not publish its questions, and any site that claims to give you the actual answers is guessing or selling something. Our practice test says plainly what it is: original questions in a similar style, useful for the skills and not a preview of Amazon's content.

Tips for the Amazon assessment

  1. 01

Find out which assessment you have

Work style, simulation, coding and mixed assessments are very different. Check the invitation.
  2. 02

Do not over-prepare the work style assessment

Amazon says to answer without overthinking. Know the Leadership Principles, then be yourself.
  3. 03

Practise reading charts if your role includes it

Amazon names reading data from a chart as one simulation task.
  4. 04

    Mind the deadline

Amazon says it cannot grant extensions if one is missed.
  5. 05

    Set aside enough uninterrupted time

Many assessments are timed and virtual. Plan a quiet hour.
  6. 06

    Ignore answer-selling sites

Amazon does not publish its questions. Pages claiming answers are unreliable.
  7. 07

Use your work style examples later

Interviews are built on the same Leadership Principles.

What candidates and prep sites report

These come from anonymous reviews, university careers pages and prep guides. They often disagree, and Amazon has not confirmed them. Read them as leads, not rules.

  • Prep sites say the majority of Amazon jobs involve ability tests such as numerical and logical reasoning, with numerical data in graphs, tables or charts. Amazon's pages we read do not state this.
  • One prep provider lists an Amazon Area Manager test alongside a work style assessment, a personality test and numerical, verbal and abstract reasoning components.
  • A candidate review describes a numerical reasoning test followed by interviews at a distribution centre, with questions based on Amazon's values.
  • Prep sites describe a "Virtual Job Tryout" with five sections including ranking responses to scenarios, prioritising daily tasks and interpreting data in a report; durations quoted range from 10 to 50 minutes. Amazon's pages we read use the terms work style assessment and work sample simulation.

Amazon says typically 20 minutes to an hour.

Can I get an extension on the deadline?

Amazon says deadlines are strict and it cannot grant extensions if one is missed.

Are Amazon assessment answers available online?

Amazon does not publish its questions. Be wary of any site claiming to show its questions or answers.

Does Amazon test coding?

For software roles, yes. The SDE II assessment gives 90 minutes of technical questions, then 20 minutes of design scenarios and an 8-minute work style survey.

Are the practice questions from Amazon?

No. They are original questions in a similar style, and LifeScore is not affiliated with Amazon.

Checked October 2026. Work style assessments, work sample simulations, durations, role examples, strict deadlines and the statement that most roles need no advance preparation come from Amazon Jobs pages. Numerical and logical reasoning for operations and management roles, and the Virtual Job Tryout name, come from prep sites and candidate reviews, with conflicting lengths, and could not be verified. Amazon publishes no questions or pass marks.
