What is Killua Zoldyck's IQ?

Killua reads fights, people and threats faster than any kid his age should, and he picks up new systems almost on sight. That is the case for gifted. The case against going higher is that his best thinking is applied combat awareness, not open-ended problem solving, and his upbringing keeps overriding his judgment. He is a twelve-year-old who can be tailed, caught and manipulated by his own brother. A sharp, well-trained mind with obvious blind spots: gifted, not exceptional.

Age-normed for a 12 to 14-year-old.

Scene-by-scene evidence

  1. Nen in three hours

    Moderate evidence

    Heavens Arena arc

Killua and Gon have three hours to learn enough Nen to get past Hisoka's barrier, or Killua loses his place in the arena. Wing skips the slow six-month method and forces their aura nodes open, and both boys steady their leaking aura within seconds and then push through Wing's killing intent. Wing does the heavy lifting, so we count it only moderately. Still, going from never having heard of Nen to controlling the basics in an afternoon, then improving steadily over the following weeks, is a real learning-speed signal for a twelve-year-old.

  2. Splitting the Bomber trio

    Strong evidence

    Greed Island arc

Genthru's Bombers are three players who work as a unit, and their bomb-based Nen is lethal if they stay together. Gon, Killua and Biscuit lure them into a forest and separate them so each fight is one-on-one: Biscuit takes Bara to a beach and knocks him out, Killua is matched against Sub, and Gon faces Genthru. The plan targets the enemy's coordination rather than out-muscling three opponents. It needs a working model of what each will do, and it is the clearest case of Killua planning around other minds.

  3. Inventing Godspeed against the Ortho siblings

    Strong evidence

    Chimera Ant arc

Killua develops Godspeed during his fight with the Ortho siblings. It has two layers: lightning-style aura that supercharges his body, and a reflex mode that lets him react to attacks without waiting for conscious thought. He is a Transmutation user turning his aura into electricity, and the technique is built around his own weakness, a body that cannot move as fast as his mind sees. Designing a reflex layer under fire is the best evidence for invention in his file, though it is invention confined to his own body.

  4. Dancing around Youpi

    Moderate evidence

    Chimera Ant arc

Against Youpi, one of the strongest Chimera Ant guards, Killua cannot match power, since his hits carry a fraction of Youpi's strength. Instead he uses Godspeed to stay out of reach, and Youpi struggles to follow what is happening. Fighting a stronger enemy by controlling range and timing rather than trading blows is good tactical judgement, and Killua does it while under stress. It is not a puzzle solved from thin clues, but it shows an accurate read of a fight where one mistake is fatal.

  5. Pulling the needle and saving Gon

    Moderate evidence

Chimera Ant arc and its aftermath

Killua learns that Illumi implanted a needle in his brain that drives him to flee unwinnable fights and keeps him away from his sister Alluka, and he pulls it out himself. After the Chimera Ant arc, with Gon near death, he turns to Alluka's healing power and puts his friend ahead of his family's rules. The first act shows self-diagnosis of a hidden constraint. The second is a hard judgement under emotional pressure, and it says more about his character than his IQ.

What holds the number down

  • Caught while tailing the TroupeYorknew City arcGon and Killua follow Nobunaga and Machi through Yorknew City, unaware that Phinks and Pakunoda are following them. The two Troupe members capture the boys with little trouble. Killua is the more cautious of the pair and knows how assassins work, so failing to check for a tail behind the people he was tailing is a real lapse, and a serious one against an opponent that kills for a living.
  • Killing for his brother at the Hunter ExamHunter Exam arc, final phaseIllumi, posing as the exam's Gittarackur, manipulates Killua into attacking Bodoro during Leorio's match. Killua kills Bodoro and is disqualified. He knew Illumi frightened him and still did what he was told. That is the same mistake that the needle later explains, and it shows a mind that could not yet step back and question the person controlling him.
  • Narrow breadthSeries-wideKillua's skills run deep in stealth, killing and combat perception. On the page he shows little of the cross-domain knowledge or tool-building that pushes a character into the 150s. He copes brilliantly with what he was raised for and far less obviously with everything else, and his best plans are joint efforts with Gon and Biscuit.

Why 130, and not higher or lower

Killua scores well on learning speed and on planning around other minds, and moderately on deduction. He shows almost no invention outside his own body and little breadth beyond his trade, and his error rate is higher than a 150-plus character's should be. Illumi's needle is a plot-level handicap that fans use to excuse those errors, but a mind that stays steerable by one person for years is still showing a limit. Popular fan posts call him a prodigy in the 150s. Trained instinct explains most of what they point to, so we stay in the gifted band.

IQ estimates for fictional characters are fan analysis: an argument from what the story shows, not a measurement. Read the full method and the standards we hold every profile to.

The debate

The usual argument is Killua versus Gon: Killua is the brains, Gon the instinct. That holds within the duo, since Killua often sees the danger first. The hotter argument is whether he belongs with the series' top strategists, such as Chrollo or Meruem. He does not. Those characters run plans that survive skilled opposition across whole arcs, while Killua's biggest plan is a three-person effort against a group of bombers. We put him clearly above ordinary and below the real strategists of Hunter x Hunter, with a good chance he climbs later.

Killua Zoldyck IQ: frequently asked questions

What is Killua Zoldyck's IQ?+

No IQ is stated in canon. Our estimate is about 130, with a plausible range of 118 to 145, based on his learning speed, tactical planning and adaptability, balanced against his errors and narrow field of expertise.

Is Killua smarter than Gon?+

In most situations that call for analysis, yes. Killua notices threats and consequences sooner than Gon does. Gon's strength is single-minded instinct, and it sometimes reaches solutions Killua would not find by reasoning alone, so the pair work best as a team.

Is Killua a genius?+

He is a prodigy at fighting and a gifted thinker, but not the top-tier genius some fans claim. His feats are impressive for his age and background, and his mistakes are frequent enough to keep him out of the 150-plus band.
