Who is Reed Richards?

Reed Richards is Mister Fantastic, the stretching leader of the Fantastic Four and one of the smartest people in the Marvel universe. He first appeared in 1961 in Fantastic Four issue 1, by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

He is a physicist, engineer and explorer whose curiosity goes further than almost anyone's, sometimes further than is wise.

The rocket
In the Fantastic Four's origin, Reed designs a spacecraft and flies it with his friend Ben Grimm, his future wife Sue Storm and her brother Johnny. Ben has warned him that the shielding may not stop cosmic rays. They go anyway, the rays hit them and all four gain powers. Genius and recklessness in the same story.

The Galactus Trilogy
In Fantastic Four issues 48 to 50, the planet-eating Galactus comes for Earth. With help from the Watcher, the team sends Johnny to fetch the Ultimate Nullifier, a weapon from Galactus's own ship. Reed holds it and threatens him with it, and Galactus leaves. Reed wins by bluffing a god.

Civil War
In the 2006 Civil War event, Reed sides with Tony Stark on superhero registration. He helps design a prison for superhumans in the Negative Zone, another dimension, and helps build a clone of Thor. It is brilliant work, and one of his most divisive decisions.
