BDO calls its assessment puzzle-like and says no preparation is needed. Here is what that really leaves to do
BDO UK sits one task-based online assessment between the application form and the video interview. It says the tasks are interactive, based on quantitative and inductive reasoning, and need no prior preparation, while pointing to a demo practice question on its hints page. Both statements can be true, and both matter.

How close is this practice test to the BDO UK test?
BDO says its online tasks are interactive and puzzle-like, and that they are based on quantitative and inductive reasoning. The CCAT practice test has number series, logic and shape-pattern questions under a short clock, which is the nearest rehearsal for inductive thinking we have.
BDO also says the tasks need no prior preparation, and that they measure behaviours and cognitive traits such as resilience and decision-making, which a multiple-choice test does not capture. Our questions are static; BDO's tasks are interactive. Take our test for general comfort, not as a preview.
It is a CCAT-style test: 50 original questions in 15 minutes. Check the test name in your invitation email before you decide how to prepare.

The BDO UK stages, and who says so
Every stage is marked by its source. Stated means the employer says it on its own pages. Candidates report means we found it only in candidate accounts and prep guides.

What puzzle-like means in a graduate assessment
BDO describes interactive tasks that measure behaviours and cognitive traits, and says they are based on quantitative and inductive reasoning. In plain terms, expect to be shown something on screen, work out a rule or a number from it, and sometimes make choices as the task unfolds. How you act as well as what you answer can matter.
The word interactive is the key difference from a standard reasoning test. There is no list of questions to scan ahead. You respond to what is in front of you, one step at a time, which tests calm and decision-making as much as accuracy.
No preparation required, but a demo is on offer
BDO says these puzzle-style tasks do not need prior preparation, and in the same breath links a demo site with a practice question from its hints page. The consistent reading is that nothing needs studying, but seeing the interface once is sensible.
Use the demo before the real attempt, then stop. The more valuable preparation is plain: the same device you will use, a quiet room, and a window of time with nothing else on.
The inductive half in a few minutes of practice
Inductive reasoning means finding the pattern from examples and applying it to a new case. The two common forms are number sequences, where you look for the step between terms, and shape or symbol sequences, where you look for what changes in each frame.
If you want a short warm-up, run the CCAT practice test once and look only at your logic and spatial questions. The point is not the score. It is noticing how you react when a pattern does not show itself in the first ten seconds. People who stay calm and try a second rule usually finish better than those who stare.
The quantitative half
BDO names quantitative reasoning but gives no more detail. Keep ratio, percentage and simple-algebra methods fresh, because under time those are the operations that slip. Our free reasoning test contains 25 data questions to test them.
For methods, read the numerical reasoning questions page. If you only have thirty minutes, learn the percentage change formula and how to read a stacked bar chart, then stop.
AI, devices and the offer to sit in the office
BDO asks candidates not to use AI and adds that the tasks are based on quantitative and inductive reasoning, so AI would not help. Its graduate listings also offer the option to sit the assessments in a BDO office, where a laptop and space can be provided if you do not have your own.
If you have a poor connection or a shared room, that option is worth taking. Adjustments for disability or neurodivergence need to be requested when you apply, not afterwards.

Tips for the BDO UK assessment
- 01

Request adjustments at application
BDO says they need to be requested when you apply. - 06
Consider the office option
Graduate listings offer sitting the assessments in a BDO office with a laptop provided. - 07
