BT Group scores your written answers with AI support. Here is how to write for it, and for the person who watches your video
BT's current graduate assessment is not a reasoning test. It is five written questions and one recorded video question, untimed, with a week to finish. BT says the written answers are scored with AI support and the video is reviewed by a recruiter, so the preparation is about clarity.

How close is this practice test to the BT Group test?
BT's current online assessment is untimed and made of written and video answers, not a reasoning test, so our practice test is not a preview of it. An older BT page mentions a timed reasoning section; our reasoning test is the closest rehearsal for that if it appears in your invitation.
BT says five written answers are scored with AI support and one video answer is reviewed by a recruiter. Nothing in our numerical and verbal test measures that. The preparation that helps most is writing clear, specific answers, which is outside what a multiple-choice test can train.
It is a Reasoning-style test: 50 original questions in 45 minutes. Check the test name in your invitation email before you decide how to prepare.

The BT Group stages, and who says so
Every stage is marked by its source. Stated means the employer says it on its own pages. Candidates report means we found it only in candidate accounts and prep guides.

What AI support in the scoring means for your answers
BT says its online assessment includes five written questions scored with AI support and one recorded video question that a recruiter reviews. That is a disclosure few employers make, and it affects how you write. Software reads for structure and relevance better than it reads for charm.
So answer the question asked, in complete sentences, and include a specific situation, what you did and what happened. Avoid padding. A direct, organised paragraph usually serves both an algorithm and a human who reads afterwards.
A plan for five written answers
Untimed does not mean slow. Estimates of the time needed range from about 35 to 50 minutes, so five written answers and a video fit inside an hour if you do not wander. A useful structure for each answer is situation in one sentence, action in two or three, result in one, and what you learned in one.
Draft your examples before you open the link: a time you worked in a team, a time you solved a problem, a time you learned something quickly, a time you helped a customer or user. You can adapt each to a question on the day.
The video question is read by a person
The video answer is the part of the assessment a recruiter reviews. Look at the camera, sit in a lit room, and answer in a steady voice rather than a rehearsed one. Keep the answer focused on one example.
Record a practice answer on your phone and watch it once. Fix one thing, such as pace or the first sentence, and then stop. Over-editing yourself can make the real attempt sound stilted.
The older timed reasoning section
One older BT page mentions a timed reasoning section. The newer pages call the assessment untimed. We cannot tell whether any programme still uses the older format, so a light backstop is reasonable: one sitting of the free reasoning test, then stop.
If your invitation names a numerical or verbal test, move to the how to pass reasoning tests plan. If it does not, put the hour into your written examples instead.
Screening call, three-hour centre and when you hear
After the assessment, BT describes a short screening call with a recruiter to check things like right to work and qualifications. The assessment centre follows, with a group exercise and a competency interview lasting about three hours, usually in person. Field roles can have only the competency interview.
BT says you will be told the outcome within two weeks of applying and can request feedback after the final stage. It also says reasonable adjustments do not affect your scoring or your chances, so ask for what you need.

Checked October 2026, through search summaries of BT's own pages. We did not read the pages in full. The pages are of different ages and disagree on whether a timed reasoning section exists and on how long the assessment takes. BT gives no pass mark, and does not name a test provider, in what we read, so we could not verify those.
