At Aviva every graduate sits a situational strengths test. Your pathway decides whether numerical reasoning or coding is added
Aviva sorts its tests by pathway. A situational strengths test comes first for all of them. Finance-flavoured pathways add numerical reasoning, technology and data pathways add coding, and a recorded video interview follows. Here is how to read your pathway page and where an older page disagrees.

How close is this practice test to the Aviva test?
Aviva says accountancy, actuarial, claims, pricing and underwriting, and wealth pathways add a numerical reasoning test to the situational strengths test every pathway sits. Our reasoning test has 25 table and chart questions for that numerical test.
The test every Aviva pathway sets is a situational strengths test, which has no sums, and the technology and data pathways add a coding test. An older Aviva page lists a critical reasoning test instead. Our practice test fits one pathway's extra test, not the common core.
It is a Reasoning-style test: 50 original questions in 45 minutes. Check the test name in your invitation email before you decide how to prepare.

The Aviva stages, and who says so
Every stage is marked by its source. Stated means the employer says it on its own pages. Candidates report means we found it only in candidate accounts and prep guides.

For the Leadership Programme, online or in person, with a group task, a series of individually completed micro-assessments and a strengths-based interviewThat description comes from the older Leadership Programme material, which refers to a 2021 start.
Your pathway page is the test list
Aviva does not give one answer to what its tests are. It publishes a page per pathway, and the page for accountancy differs from the page for claims, technology or corporate functions. That makes the first step simple: open the page for the pathway you want and read the application section line by line.
Everything below is a map of what those pages say in common. The common core is a situational strengths test. The additions are numerical reasoning for the finance-adjacent pathways and a coding test for software and data.
Situational strengths, not situational judgement
The word strengths matters. Aviva's tests and its interview are described as strengths-based, which means they probe what you enjoy and do well, not only what is correct. A good answer shows judgement, but a pattern of answers shows what you are drawn to.
Before the test, list what energises you in a working day, such as solving a puzzle, talking a customer through a decision or organising a messy plan. Then answer honestly. A strengths profile that you invent would be hard to keep up across a test, a recorded interview and a centre.
When numerical reasoning is added
If your pathway is accountancy, actuarial, claims, pricing and underwriting, or wealth, Aviva says a numerical reasoning test is added. Aviva does not give the number of questions or the time on the pages we read.
Start with the free reasoning test above, which includes 25 table and chart questions, then work through the numerical reasoning questions page. Percentages, ratios and reading a chart accurately are the common demands. If you are heading for actuarial or pricing, extra comfort with proportions and rates pays off.
Coding for tech, and an older page that says critical reasoning
Technology and data candidates sit a coding test in place of numerical reasoning. Our practice tests do not cover coding, so use the programming language and platform your invitation names.
Aviva's Leadership Programme FAQ, which refers to a 2021 start, lists a critical reasoning test with tests taking about 40 minutes each on average. The newer pathway pages do not repeat that. If you land on the older page by search, check the pathway page before you prepare for a test that may no longer be set.
The recorded interview and the assessment day
People who pass the tests get a link to a recorded interview. It starts with a practice question and then asks a few strengths-based questions. Prepare by thinking about the last time you were absorbed in a task and why, then record a rehearsal.
For the assessment day, Aviva describes, for the Leadership Programme, a group task, a series of micro-assessments done individually and a strengths-based interview, possibly online. Afterwards, successful candidates complete an online pre-employment screening form. Aviva also says applications close once it has received enough, so apply when you are ready rather than at the deadline.

Tips for the Aviva assessment
- 01
Find your pathway's page
Tests are added by pathway, so check the page for yours. - 02
Know your strengths before the test
The situational strengths test and the interview are both strengths-based. - 03
Practise tables if your pathway adds numerical reasoning
Accountancy, actuarial, claims, pricing and underwriting, and wealth are the ones Aviva names. - 04
Technology: practise in your coding language
Software development and data pathways add a coding test. - 05
Use the practice question in the video interview
It comes first, so use it to settle your delivery. - 06
Apply early in the window
Aviva says applications close when it has enough of them. - 07
Ignore the older critical reasoning detail unless your invitation names it
It comes from a Leadership Programme FAQ referring to 2021.

Checked October 2026, through search summaries of Aviva's own careers pages. We did not read the pages in full. The pathway pages refer to September 2026 starts while the Leadership Programme FAQ refers to September 2021, so the assessment day detail may be out of date. Aviva gives no question counts, times or pass marks in what we read, so we could not verify any.
