How close is this practice test to the Legal & General test?
Legal & General says its online assessment asks strengths-based behavioural questions and numerical questions, and points to a Preparation Zone for practice. Our reasoning test covers the numerical side with tables and charts.
The strengths-based questions, the motivational video interview and the assessment centre exercises have no counterpart in our test. Legal & General gives no question count, time limit or pass mark on the pages we read, and the example postings were from 2024 and 2025 intakes.
It is a Reasoning-style test: 50 original questions in 45 minutes. Check the test name in your invitation email before you decide how to prepare.

The Legal & General stages, and who says so
Every stage is marked by its source. Stated means the employer says it on its own pages. Candidates report means we found it only in candidate accounts and prep guides.

Rolling recruitment changes when you should apply
Legal & General says it recruits on a rolling basis, with no application deadlines, and that most graduate roles open in October. It accepts only one application per person across all its graduate programmes, so the first application counts. Centres typically run in December and January.
Rolling recruitment rewards preparation before you click submit, because the online assessments arrive straight after. Have your numerical practice done and your examples drafted before the application goes in, not after.
Strengths first, then numbers
The assessment mixes strength-based behavioural questions with numerical questions. The behavioural questions ask how you like to work and what you do well. Answer honestly: this is also what the assessment centre will explore.
For the numerical questions, the free reasoning test above gives you 25 table and chart questions. The how to pass reasoning tests guide has a one-week plan, and the good reasoning test score page explains why you should not read a prep-site figure as a pass mark.
The L&G Preparation Zone
Legal & General points candidates to a Preparation Zone where you can learn about and practise the assessments. That is the first place to go, because it is the employer's own material.
Use our free test as a complement for the numerical side only, and use the Preparation Zone for the behavioural format. Do not expect to find the exact items in either.
Motivation on camera
After the online assessments you answer motivational questions on video. Motivation questions ask why this company, why this role and why you. Generic answers about growth and learning are the norm, so specifics stand out.
Read what the group is doing: its areas of business, and one recent initiative that connects to a subject you have studied or worked on. Then write three sentences, not a script, that link your story to that.
Interview, presentation and group exercise
The assessment centre is described as a line manager interview with two assessors lasting 45 minutes, a presentation provided in advance, and a scenario-based group exercise scored by assessors. The 2024 and 2025 postings that describe this are older than the current intake, so confirm the format.
With a presentation you receive in advance, the differentiator is rehearsal: time it, simplify it and prepare for the questions that follow. For the group exercise, aim to contribute structure and to bring quieter members in. Our guide to banking, insurance and investment assessments compares this with similar employers.

Checked October 2026, through search summaries of Legal & General's own careers pages. We did not read them in full. Several details come from 2024 and 2025 postings, and the pages give no question counts, time limits or pass mark, so we could not verify those for your intake.
